Jakob Ernst was born in Swabia and has lived in Switzerland for more than three decades. He studied sociology and now works as a mentor, coach, and author.
He is particularly interested in the marginal aspects of our culture—the small rules, habits, prohibitions, and unspoken norms in which social change often becomes visible sooner than in the major political and philosophical debates. In doing so, Ernst combines the sociologist’s perspective with the observer’s curiosity and a keen sense of the absurdities of everyday life.
His credo is: “The direction in which a society is heading can best be gauged by the everyday things.”
In his book *330 Forbidden Things That Used to Be Allowed*, Jakob Ernst follows this very line of thought and demonstrates, in a way that is both entertaining and surprising, just how much our ideas about what is allowed, normal, or taken for granted have changed.
