Mara Gardot is of German-French origin. She studied behavioural biology with a focus on equine behavior and specialized early on in the subtle forms of non-verbal communication between humans and animals.
After years of practicing, she founded a small, decelerated farm in Normandy, where she now lives and works. There she runs workshops in which people learn to read horses quietly - not as mounts, but as sentient partners with dignity, history and their own expression.
Gardot's central theme is the subtle language between humans and animals. Positive reinforcement, mindfulness and body-oriented communication methods as well as relationship and resonance.
Her work stands for an attitude that combines ethics, practice and empathy: Dignity of the horse, safety on the ground, joy instead of function.
Mara Gardot writes as she teaches - clearly, warmly and quietly.
Her books are invitations to rediscover relationships: honest, mindful and free of coercion.
